Fragaria vesca

Description

Deep scarlet, egg-shaped fruits weigh two to three grams each. Everbearer that yields the first season from an early planting. A very productive alpine sort, sweet and flavorful.

Harvesting seed

Usually started as cuttings from an established plant but can be grown from seed.

Select berries when they have a deep colour.

Put the berries in a blender and pulse until the seeds and pulp are separated into a puree. Sieve to remove the juice and most of the pulp.

Rinse the remaining puree to leave the seeds. Dry on a paper towel and store in a container in a cool, dry place.
