Centaurea cyanus

Classic Cornflower

Description

Rich and brilliant blue flowers all summer long. This old garden favourite is both a splendid border plant and also a fine flower for cutting.

Harvesting seed

Allow the flowers to fade and the petals to drop naturally from the bud, leaving a tan coloured seed head.

As the seed head dries it begins to open flat to release the seeds. Harvest just before this happens by cutting off the seed heads and hanging up in a paper bag to dry indoors. Seeds will fall into the bag.

Winnow, dry thoroughly and store in an airtight container.
