Allium cepa

Pale yellow-skinned and shaped like a flattened globe.

Grows up to 1.25kg with excellent flavour.

Very hardy, good for spring or autumn sowing and keeps well.

Harvesting seed

Allow seeds to dry on plants before harvesting. Gather the heads in a paper bag and allow to dry for 2 weeks. Most of the seeds will fall out on their own; shake the bag to free the remainder of the seeds.

Winnow and sieve the seeds.

Store in a cool dark, dry place in an airtight container.
