Chenopodium quinoa

Description

From South America, & has very open seed-heads that help shed the rain. A good choice for the wetter or windier parts of the UK, we find that this is always a heavy producer.

Orange seed heads, high yields. Open head shape is less prone to molding in seed heads than other quinoa.

Harvesting seed

Cut the heads when the flowers start to change colour and the seeds have formed.

Leave to wilt either hanging or on a sheet and then beat out over a bowl.

Wearing rubber gloves rub the heads to remove the seeds and then sieve.

Leave to dry further and then rub out the seeds and winnow.
